I have no source but I feel like I heard that save files will not work regardless of mods. That one makes more sense to me to not work at all instead of mods. I'm pretty sure mods can technically work without modification, but it depends heavily on what the mod does. Some mods have warnings on them like 'not tested in SSE use at your own risk' which implies that there is some case where they can work in SSE. If not, the warning would always flat up say 'will not work in SSE'–Nov 2 '16 at 18:16. The 'Best Answer' is actually kind of misleading and not entirely true.

The short answer is no most will not, however certain mods will work, let me go into a little bit of detail.
