This includes requests for donations. I would stay away from Wings Field.

You're overpaying. You don't need to learn in a Cirrus. If you don't mind the commute, Allentown is the only Class C airport in Pennsylvania so you'll get some good training there. Look up Ace Pilot Training. If you want to stay closer, I would check out the new school at Northeast (PNE) that mentioned, Legacy Aviation. I'm interested in checking out what they are doing.

I'm hoping they at least get rid of the outdated technology that Hortman had and still have reasonable rates. They called me back in early January, but haven't heard from them since then.I've also heard of good things about Doylestown.

I might check them out this spring just because it sounds like their rental rates are really good. I did my first Discovery Flight with them and didn't go back. That was just my experience, but I have been hearing they are pretty good now. DYL is untowered, though, so you'll have to factor that in.

I did all of my training at PNE and ABE so I'm super comfortable talking to the towers. I'm less comfortable at untowered airports just because you never know who isn't talking. Cost is probably the most important. All of your hours count regardless of how you got them. But if you're paying super expensive rates then cash may become a problem. Ace Pilot started charging $100 per hour for their Cessna 152s.

It used to be $90 last year. You'll also pay $40 per hour for the instructor. The reason I went to Ace is because I was following my old instructor up there who I knew really well and who I worked with perfectly. Last I heard that instructor was no longer there.Start with cost. Also, I suggest doing Part 61 for the private license. I can't give you suggestions on how to take care of the ground instruction portion under Part 61 because my ground lessons were done while I was at PNE under the Part 141 instruction.Look deep into DYL.

Check availability. They have good rates but if you can never schedule the plane when you have time to fly then it's going to drive you nuts prolonging your training or when weather gets in the way and you have to go 3 weeks until your next lesson because the planes are always booked.I am fairly new to all of this. I don't know the area that well. Since I've gotten my PPL I've only been out flying twice because of the winter and I'm trying to save money to buy a house.
